In a few weeks, our little family is going back to the US of A for a while to see friends & family {and escape this terrible heat}! This time I WILL BE TAKING SOME TIME OFF so I am planning some special posts in advance. Which means...
I AM TAKING YOUR SUGGESTIONS! I get a LOT of emails everyday with questions but they're hard to keep track of so if you have a design question or a POST PROMPT leave a comment here and you may just get your answer!
How about writing on design in the middle east? Has it influenced how you design? Have you done any work for clients there??

PS. Have a great vacation!
I would love to know more information on the ampersand print you have in your gallery wall! Have a great vacay!

I know this is a little broad....but could you talk about how to discover one's own personal style? I struggle with that. I love so many different things, even though I know some are definitely not me, so it's hard for me to decide what I want to do with a room.
ReplyDeleteWhat to do with styling the top of kitchen cabinets? There is nothing really on internet? Pictures? or how to recover a chair?
ReplyDeleteI am always interested to hear how designers keep track of their sources. I feel like I waste so much time finding furniture and fabrics that will work for a particular project because I don't have an organized system. Would love to hear how you do it! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteNursery...where do you get ideas? what inspires you? do you get stuff online? do you have pictures of your babies nursery?
ReplyDeletethanks:)
Will you make it to SF and let me see that beautiful child of yours?!?!
ReplyDeleteHey Caitlin! It is jenna crandall. I am wanting the same 3 pieces of art work above your bed to put over mine. Where can I order it from or find something like it. I am in NY now and if you have any favorite decor places here let me know!! I just love you!

I'm in LOVE with the blue floral block-print fabric from John Robshaw!! Sadly I saw that his company does not sell to the public, but I was wondering if you would mind telling me the price per yard (even though I doubt I can afford it!). Thanks, and good luck with your move!!
ReplyDeletetell us about yours and olivia's clothing style - complete with stores to shop at.
ReplyDeleteWould you be willing to look at a picture (say of my living room or other followers of your blog) and make suggestions and or a mini storyboard?!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful vacation and enjoy your time away!

P.S. Also love the suggestion about how to discover one's style. That is a great topic.
What to do with the space above your cabinets... I am stumped. I know all that greenery is out. Thanks:)
ReplyDeleteDitto to the "above the cabinets" dilemma. Also, what to do with a hallway. Have a great trip!
ReplyDeleteSuggestions on what to do with a window over a bed would be great!
ReplyDeleteYour favorite calming colors for the master bedroom.
ReplyDeleteWhat are some of your favorite interior design books, listed by style?
ReplyDeleteHow to make a plain front porch more appealing, including what color to paint a front door?
ReplyDeleteProvide a decor plan (whatever those layout boards are called) for different scenarios...I'd especially be interested in a cool kids craft/toy area/nook and a cool boys room (a la Susanna Salk's book, decorating w/o the kid frills; w/real design). Would love to see what you'd do here. Have fun on your vacay. I'll be in OC in Sept. Would love to bump into you!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to know how you make your & Olivia's cute hair boys. You always have something adorable in your hair!!
ReplyDeleteLame but true... I want to know about good greyish brown paint colors.
ReplyDeletewhere to get good but slightly cheaper end wallpaper...
ReplyDeleteHow to find good fabrics online for reupholstering chairs, and ditto on the top of cabinets idea and the window above bed.
ReplyDeleteHow about how you got started in interior design, your background, and major influences?
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for a rug... No THE rug for our house and don't want to spend a fortune on it. Probably around $200-$400 I know your taste is very high end but is there somewhere tht could mimic that for cheaper? I don't know how to order one online and understand the content of the rug to know how it would feel.
ReplyDeleteAny suggestions?
I'd also love love to know yours and Olivias style an where you get such adorable clothes. A diy on the cute bows!!!
I would love advise on how to make a room light and airy with using the existing furniture that I have. Hubby like the dark or black wood (which is what I have to work with) but I am going for the whites and light blues that are so popular now. Any help on this would be great!
ReplyDeleteThanks and enjoy the US for me, miss that place.
The space above cabinets and wallpaper. How to pick wallpaper that you won't hate a year from now.
ReplyDeleteOne more thought: Domino and Lonny have done this, but I'd love to see your take on winning dining table and chair combos! I'm thinking about repainting my traditional hand-me-down table (until I can afford a new one) and pairing some new modern chairs with it. I'm struggling to decide if all chairs need to be at the same height. Jenna Lyons mixed a classic Louis chair with Bertoia chairs around her farmhouse table. I love that look. more ideas along those lines would be awesome! (sources always appreciated)
ReplyDeleteOo how fun! I know Miss Olivia will just love seeing her Mimi! Travel safely!
ReplyDeleteI also would love to hear about how to discover one's own style. I find that I like bits and pieces of several different styles. I've started saving ideas that I like in a file so when the time comes to move or redesign my home I can look in my file and see if there is an obvious style that jumps out at me.
ReplyDeletehow about 10 basic rules for creating a great room?
ReplyDeleteit's so hard... matching end tables or mismatched?
how do you create balance?
one central focus?
cluttered or clean?
how do you stage a mantle? or stack books all pretty like on a coffee table?
or a list of things every room needs for a cheer up (wallpaper, gallery wall maybe? accessories? curtains? a family photo? a plant?)
This may be silly, but since you are the pillow master, I was wondering if you had favorite dimensions for pillows? And if so, are there certain pillow sizes that you've found work well together when mixing and matching? Thanks! Hope you enjoy your holiday.
ReplyDeleteDecorating a big space. My living/dining/kitchen is all one giant room. How do you distinguish and decorate this box?
ReplyDeleteI would love to hear your opinion on defining individual style.
ReplyDeletealso... I struggle with how to place my furniture for the best impact!
i live in a typical "suburban tract" kind of house. we picked this area because it's great for young families, but unfortunately the style of the house is kind of blah and not my style at all. you know, it has those high ceilings with a little planter shelf area (no idea what to do with that!) and all that space above the kitchen cabinets. beige walls, beige carpet, and no trim around the windows.
ReplyDeletenone of it is my style but i've been kind of stuck and overwhelmed with what to do about it all.
any suggestions about how to personalize and decorate a space like that and give it some character (while sticking to a VERY TIGHT budget?)
thanks!
Different ways to arrange pillows on a KING size bed...and art to fill up the wall behind it...on a budget. Would love the help right now.
ReplyDeleteI would love to know how to match paint colors in a house? I love grays, navy blue and blues, but I want to make sure they all flow and go together. Also, more lists of your favorite paint colors.

ReplyDeleteIf you had a baby boy, what would his nursery look like that would be equally cute as Olivia's darling room? Also, I love the ideas mentioned about a DIY hair bow tutorial! Do you have someone make them or do you?!
ReplyDeletei'd love to know where you get all your baby girl's hair things..do you make them, if so, can we have a tutorial.
ReplyDeleteBest kid-friendly furniture. I love the look of a white coach but with two toddler boys, it's out of the question. Any great suggestions?
