interview on quintessentially b

curious about my background, style icons, or inspiration behind my designs?

sarah berry has all the answers on quintessentially b. i didn't realize how much time & energy it would take to sit down and write about myself...but it was a good self-evaluation exercise.

happy monday. enjoy!

  3. Sarah's interview was wonderful, and I learned some new things...I didn't know about the entrepreneurial streak. Some things the interview didn't cover: How generous you are with your skills and knowledge of design...how willing to volunteer to teach a class to student wives decorating on mini budgets, for example and and how down to earth and friendly you are to everyone. Caitlin is definitely a "world class" designer. But I may be prejudiced. She is also the world's best daughter-in-law.

  5. I loved reading the interview, you are such a talented young woman. I am so excited to have found your blog, I have already ordered some Celerie Kemble fabric after seeing how you have used it in your designs.
I can relate about the cost of magazines in Dubai, didn't stop me from getting my fix though! Just had to hide some of them from my hubby!

  8. Loved reading this! You are very well-spoken indeed. I agree with mom--your talent is made so much remarkable by how generous you are in sharing it! Our home wouldn't be nearly so lovely without your amazing design instincts and willingness to help us out!

  9. Hey Caitlin! I've been reading your blog for quite some time now. I'd like to think that I've commented before and just don't remember, but knowing myself and how terrified I am of commenting on strangers' blogs, chances are that this is the first one I've left one for you.

I just have to let you know that I think that you are incredibly talented, inspirational, beautiful, and just plain old fantastic! I LOVED reading your interview. You remind me of a stronger, braver, more talented version of myself. I've always loved art and for as long as I can remember I've wanted to be an interior designer. My mom eventually convinced me to do architecture instead. I studied architecture in NYC for two years and absolutely hated it (architecture, not New York- I loved NY!) Now I'm considering other options- maybe interior design, maybe photography, maybe something else. I'm actually in the process of applying to Parsons for interior design.

I actually spoke once with my bishop about maybe doing interior design. He tried so hard to convince me not to to it, telling me that "tying to be an interior designer is like trying to be a Broadway star." He told me that I would just end up waiting tables in some diner, that I'd never be able to make enough money and that making enough money is far more important than enjoying what you do. It was all just a little bit discouraging. It doesn't help that my parents agree with him.

Sorry for the long comment. I guess I really just want to thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you for being yourself, for being ambitious, for following your dreams, for sharing your story, and for inspiring me. I think you are wonderful:)
