mad about MUJI

One of my favorite finds in Hong Kong thus far is MUJI- a minimalistic, Japanese store that sells a huge variety of products ranging from furniture to stationary, to laptop bags, toys, cosmetics, bedding, clothes, and even food.  To me, it's kind of like IKEA meets The Container Store and throw in some American apparel- but that doesn't even do it justice!  MUJI loosely means "no-label" so the design of the products are simple white and light wood but typical to the Japanese they are clever, good quality, and very efficient ideas. It's reminiscent of Scandanavian in design, but there's an edginess to it that I love.  In the states there are a few stores in New York but from what I've heard they don't compare to the stores in Asia, especially Japan. Our store in Tai Koo is a pretty good one I think, or so the credit card bill says! Olivia and I were both fascinated by all the little gadgets and nifty little organizational things...two hours later we came out with a yellow checked umbrella, acrylic jewelry and make-up organizers, a wooden build-your-own city {see below- Paris, London, Tokyo!}, a black and white checked foldable raincoat, a business card case, a coin man-purse, a camera case, some caramel corn, a magnet board, and an-extra long sweatshirt that I've been living in for the past week!

MUJI does have an online store but they don't have a huge selection so make sure when traveling outside the US to check and see if there's a MUJI, they're all over Europe and Asia! They also have iphone and iPad apps

  3. They have muji stores in New York and I used to love to go in and just stare at all the beautifully organized things.

I'm sure the asian stores are just amazing.

We have a wooden city of NY and it is the best little toy to throw in your bag!

Hope you are getting settled okay.

I ran into your sister Courtney yesterday and it was so fun to meet her.

  5. Sounds so cool! I love getting to see what is in other countries! It's so easy to get in a bubble in America and think we have the best of everything. I have not had opportunities to travel so it's fun getting to see the world vicariously through your blog!

  8. The SoHo store is fun, but it's tiny and only has a fraction of these great things!

  9. I love MUJI too! The closest alternative we have in Australia is Kikki-K. The store in London is pretty great, too.
