Tailored to Perfection

Speaking of traveling, we flew to DC on Thursday to meet up with my husband's family and then drove yesterday to the Outer Banks in North Carolina for a relaxing beach vacay. This is just what I need after the last month of madness and right before we move to Philly next week. I welcomed the 5 hour road trip yesterday and brought along some magazines that I have missed getting in print while we've been abroad. My favorite article from Elle Decor was of course, the always amazing work of Celerie Kemble.  The highlight, this 20th century gilt-wood clock and custom marble mantle...to die for.

The Manhattan apartment is owned by a fascinating couple who were highly involved in the project. They taught themselves AutoCAD, compiled 500 inspirational images, researched furniture and artwork, and prepared a 50 page presentation outlining their plans (no wonder they met at Harvard Business School.) Many of the pieces are from Christie's & Bonhams- I loved reading the backstories of each piece and how they chose and acquired them.  It would be insane to work with that type of budget.

Celerie described the hall bench "it's just the kind of thing I love: pointlessly strange, quirky, choinoiserie-meets-Dorothy-Draper gone bonkers." Love that. The wallcovering is De Gournay.

 Love the millwork and tile.

The closet is absolute perfection.

A great, new twist on a simple headboard, the combination of colors is unique & beautiful.
