Inspired by... Edward Wormley

"Modernism means freedom- Freedom to mix, to choose, to change, To embrace the new but hold fast to that which is good."
Edward Wormley 1907-1995

Although once a household name, Edward Wormley wasn't in my vocabulary until recently when I fell in love with one of his simple dressers that I spotted in House Beautiful. He was ranked among the leading designers of his time such as Charles Eames, Harry Bertoia, Eero Saarinen {pictured below}.

Together with DUNBAR furniture, Wormley worked to establish a style emphasized by silhouettes and simple surfaces inspired by the European modernists and Art Deco furniture. So many of the classic mid-century pieces that I love are the designs of Edward Wormley.

I am a modernist- I love to, as Wormley said, mix and match, change, and blend the old and new. At the moment the pieces in my home reflect a more commercial modern style...mostly from IKEA due to a lack of budget:) But in my heart of hearts, I really do love the old classics. I love the sophisticated, sleek yet vintage feel. I love how their versatile silhouettes can transition and blend so many different styles. Someday, I really hope to have an Edward Wormley piece. Here are some of my favorites:

Knowland, 1955

my MOST favorite...Tete-a-tete {french meaning face to face}

  1. Wormley is one of my all time favorites along with Eames, Nelson, Saarinen... can you imagine gathering that group of greats for that spread for playboy back in the day? One day I'd love to have some real mid-century goods. Thanks for the great post!
