Asuka backed chairs

I've been a fan of Osbourne & Little's Asuka for a long time...in fact, I used the wallpaper on my very first solo project, see here.  The other day, I was at SAKS in San Francisco and I spotted Asuka on the back of these chairs in salon shoes.

I usually don't love using a different fabric on chair backs but it was gorgeous on the shape of the chair and made perfect sense in this setting.

If you have a furniture arrangement that shows off the back of a chair, upholstering the back is great way to use an expensive fabric or silk that you might not otherwise use.  You also won't need as much and it has less chance of getting ruined since it's not on the seat.  I might just have to use Asuka again! LOVE it on this chair!

  1. "upholstering the back is a great way to use an expensive fabric or silk that you might not otherwise use"....now that's an idea I just might look at seriously for my upholstered dining chairs.....mind you, I have to find them 1st!

Thanks for the simple & cost effective tip, Caitlin!

  2. What a lovely idea. While I see things like this, sometimes it take a direct suggestion to think of doing it in my own home :)

  10. Hi Caitlin,

I occasionally pop in to read your blog and smiled when I saw you had the picture of this chair on there. I was one of the designers of the SFA Shoe Salon concept and this was one of my favorite chairs! Typically we can't use such a high end fabric in a commercial space bc it won't hold up to the abuse, but we so wanted that luxurious touch so that's exactly why we placed it on the back of that chair. Originally the legs were supposed to be either brass coated or gold leaf, but budget constraints didn't allow for it in the end.

So happy to see that the little touch of luxury was appreciated :)

    Happy New Year!
